Teaching and Research within the SRB Project are aimed at understanding the physical properties of Earth materials, and how those properties evolve under in conditions of stress, pore fluid pressure, and temperature. The overall program is directed by Profs. Gary Mavko and Mark Zoback. Professor Mavko directs the Rock Physics Group with SRB, Prof. Zoback directs the Stress and Crustal Mechanics Group, and Prof. Vanorio directs the Stanford Rock Physics laboratory group.

The SRB was founded in 1977 by Prof. Amos Nur. Our research is funded by an affiliate's group of energy companies, the US Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, GCEP, and the USGS.
