Today’s poem, chosen from more than 650 submissions to our Found Poem Student Challenge, comes from Samantha, who is 16 and lives in Beacon Falls, Connecticut.
Samantha’s poem is comprised of words from a recent editorial about robins in springtime and from a 2006 article about the band Belle and Sebastian.
We’ll publish a new favorite, in order of submission, every weekday through June 13.

Storytelling
All the birds migrating now,
The great V’s of geese hasten and pause.
They are building lovely and sometimes perfect music,
A familiar whistleable melody,
Storytelling.
So euphoric that you can hear the depressing ending before it comes.
They are swinging a love unrequited and quite possibly unacknowledged
They’re so common and always in plain sight,
flying low, just out of reach above us,
sometimes we overlook them.
The great V’s of geese hasten and pause,
All the birds migrating now.
