New World Notes

Following hard on the heels of MTV and Coca Cola, another renowned corporate logo makes its way into the metaverse-- this time in the form of a virtual premiere for 20th Century Fox's X-Men: The Last Stand on the island of Avalon.  The event (happening even as I type this) will stream live video from the movie's red carpet premiere in Cannes, France, with extended trailers and footage for the attending Resident audience.  So another milestone in the ongoing merger of the virtual world with established legacy media like film.  The event is the brainchild of Fizik Baskerville of UK branding company Rivers Run Red, who was last seen on this blog simulcasting a BBC concert and integrating assets from Disney movies into SL.  Since then, I should say by way of full disclosure, I've become a part-time consultant for RRR-- another milestone of sorts.

Update, 3:15 PM:  Pathfinder Linden just created a Flickr set taken from the red carpet.  Bringing together comic book culture and Internet folklore, guests at the virtual premiere of a movie about mutant outcasts struggling to find their niche in the world include a furry and the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
