Dem Leaders To Hold Presser To Unveil Final Bill

Hoping to build on the momentum generated by the release of the CBO score, House Dem leaders are set to hold a presser today at around noon to unveil the final bill, a leadership aide emails.

The bill will be posted online at around that time too.

I think we can expect the undecideds to start breaking one way or the other by late afternoon today, or possibly by tomorrow morning, if they want to digest the bill overnight. It will be quickly become clear which way they’re breaking.

Undecided Dems: Put up or shut up time.

    amk — what happened?

sbj — not that I know of. But it’s been given to the Dem leadership.

  4. sbj | March 18th, 2010 at 11:04 am

@Greg: In that case, your last headline seems a bit misleading?

For the GOP and us conservatives it’s all over but for the crying…

Meanwhile, on the other side of town:

    Republicans Grapple With Earmarks

GOP leaders in the House are pressing forward with implementation of a strict unilateral earmark ban despite the fact that their colleagues in the Senate appear to have no interest in playing along.

House Republican leaders sent GOP Members a guidance document Tuesday to explain the self-imposed earmark ban and warn the rank and file against trying to circumvent the new Conference rule.

Senate Republicans met on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of their own earmark moratorium, but the caucus remains deeply divided and the meeting generated no agreement on limiting earmarks.

    Good luck with allllll that.

For once, sbj, I could not agree with you more.

A comment from Erza’s blog makes an excellent point:

“So just for the record, let it be said that there are loads of Republicans who voted for Part D, which is projected to INCREASE the deficit by over $1 trillion in the 20 years after its passage, but are opposing the health reform bill which DECREASES the deficit by over $1 trillion in the 20 years after its passage. And they are attributing their opposition (in large part) to “fiscal responsibility”. Good to know.

“It will be quickly become clear which way they’re breaking.”

I read at TPM, Greg, that Kucinich has been scurrying around Congress working on undecideds. Ever since he deplaned from AFOne.

He’s apparently all over the Right Side of History argument with them.

I’d say the Dems roll with the momentum…no delays.

There are strong spikes in support from liberals and moderates on this bill right now as reported by Nate Silver:

    http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2010/03/why-liberals-suddenly-love-health-care.html

President needs to sign off on this on Suday so the Senate can proceed to debate and vote. Until it’s law, they can’t vote on the fixes. Delay so far, appears to be on the side of those intent on stopping the Democrats at all costs. I’d say avoid delay at all costs.

    Time to steamroll the obstructionists.

  14. sue | March 18th, 2010 at 11:12 am

sbj, you really shoulda started crying when the “conservatives” decided not to pay for 2 wars or Medicare D. Better late than never, though.

Is that supposed to be meant to convince people to vote for this thing?

I can think of few things less likely to “make the sale” than Dennis Kucinich in my office taking up my oxygen while he expounds on future history.

But then you moonbats don’t have normal reactions to stimuli that humans do.

  16. sbj | March 18th, 2010 at 11:14 am

@Greg: “and sbj, if so, every headline in town is misleading.”

Well I guess that makes it okay then.

You are a good journalist who likes to stick to the facts. The fact is that the CBO has not released their score and you cannot verify these figures independently. The least you could do is write that, “Dem leaders SAY the CBO score…”

Don’t get me wrong – I’m sure that’s what the CBO score will project. My Gosh – if the Dems were to portray the score in a misleading fashion in an attempt to build momentum I’m sure you would call them on that!

  17. sbj | March 18th, 2010 at 11:17 am

I wonder how much of the deficit reduction is due to the student loan program and has nothing to do with health care reform?

The Hill: “Republicans are “pissed” Thursday about not having been provided with a copy of the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) estimate of the healthcare bill.

“A Senate Republican aide said Thursday that no Republicans have been given the CBO’s official estimate of the healthcare bill, details of which were leaked out by Democrats this morning.

“It’s a departure from the way they’ve operated throughout the health debate, and to describe Republicans as pissed would be an understatement,” a Senate GOP aide told The Hill.”

If the bill passes, at some point we’re going to look back and wonder what took so long.

It must have been because the GOP had a competing plan and the compromise was tricky. Or that the Dem plan was too radical, too aggressive.

    No and no.

You mean the GOP just wanted to stop a deficit-reducing, much needed health care plan for millions in order to try to bring down the Dems and gain political points?

    Yep.

  25. lmsinca | March 18th, 2010 at 11:25 am

Greg, here’s two undecided that were leaning yes who are now confirmed yes, so it doesn’t change the count (David D’s, yours or Open Left), Adam Smith and Elliott Engel.

This is according to David D.

  26. Liam | March 18th, 2010 at 11:28 am

Sounds like The Republicans are crest fallen, because they were hoping to get their hands on the CBO findings, so that they could go over them, with a fine tooth comb, in order to find some reasons to vote for the bill.

Yeah, that must be the reason, since if they were not hoping to drop their opposition to the bill, then it would not matter to them, when they read the CBO report. Right, all you Right Wing Loons?!

    BGinCHI:
“If the bill passes, at some point we’re going to look back and wonder what took so long.”

Y’know, I’ve been saying that since last autumn.

The answer to your question is that THIS wasn’t the bill.

Reach into your Moonbat Memory Hole and dredge out Single Paya…then Public Option.
What took so long was that you socialists were like a ten year old with a limited allowance in a toy store, wanting things that you could not afford, and then having to be repeatedly told that you had to set your little shrivelled hearts on a more modest set of goodies.

As it stands this bill is going to torpedoed as unConstitutional anyway, but having the Pelosi Congress off trying to legislate Unicorn Farts into reality has probably been a very inspired way of keeping them from douing any REAL damage.

  30. Liam | March 18th, 2010 at 11:34 am

The Republicans want to go to the polls this November, on a promise to restore the right of The Insurance Racketeers to drop Millions Of Americans from having any health care protection.

That is a fight that we will trounce the Republicans on.

We will keep the House, and Senate comfortably, because Republicans want to go back to the bad old days, when Insurance Death Panels killed for profit.

The Republicans are writing our ads campaign for us.

    Then you’re a fool.

“You seem to forget the “deals” with drug companies and the insurance industry to get this ball rolling.”

Oh, I haven’t forgotten the deals. The deals are part of what is wrong with this.

You have apparently fogotten the government’s performance as steward of Medicare and Social Security,(and pretty much everything else).

You also seem to have overlooked the “deal” the Tobacco Companies made with the State Attorneys-General.

Where did all that Tobacco Settlement Money GO? Has smoking declined? Not really.
Cigs and Dip just got more expensive,9which raised the price of everything else, too).

The deal with Pharma and Insurance is simply meant to keep them quiet until it’s time to shake THEM down.

Man, nothing gets the trolls worked up like “socialism”.

They keep forgetting or were so brainwashed by Saint Ronnie and the rest of the noise machine to have a knee-jerk reaction against anything that has “public” in the title.

“Being in America” seems like a perfect place to talk about socialism. I mean, after all, we live in a tolerant and pluralistic society, right?
