US Amb. concerned over pressures on media

US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish has expressed concerns over pressures applied on the press, in particular, those faced by independent ANS TV channel in its Nakhchivan bureau.
“Democratic development is extremely difficult without freedom of speech and media. The Nakhchivan officials should therefore mull this issue very seriously”, said Harnish.
The ambassador noted that when ANS was subject to insults, President Ilham Aliyev personally attended to the problem, thus reaffirming his support for freedom of expression and press.
