Aspects such as this of Islamic culture and theological practice are some of the primary reasons I tried to get one of my friends to read The PIG to Islam and Serge Trifkovic's Sword of the Prophet. He's currently lost in a sea of moral relativism and insists that Islam isn't any worse or better than any other religion, specifically Christianity. However, he is unaware of things like this because he refuses to educate himself.

I finally gave up when, after I asked him to read the book I had bought for him, he said "Why, so I can hate Muslims?"

This piece reminded me of the irony and hypocrisy of the Muslim community in their shouting down and bereavement after the killing of Muslim civilians, while they remain silent on the deaths of innocents who are non-Muslim. Of course, according to their practice they are infidels and not worthy of the title "innocent" in the first place. Still, it's a problem the Muslim community needs to come to terms with if they want to be taken seriously by anybody else.

Think about what kind of culture can create a mother that would hold her baby daughter down while her son stabs her 18 times. And it's not a bizarre anomaly, it's happening thousands of time a year, all over the world.....muslim world, that is. The unbelievable hold (cancer) that political correctness has on the rest of the world doesn't allow it to see the root cause of all the despicable warts..hatred, intolerance, fascism, totalitarianism....etc, that permeates islam. The Koran is the tightly weaved thread that binds the islmic world's behavior and culture, and to see it, all one has to do is have the courage to read it.

These muslims are pathetic.

These women married fellow muslims. These families should be grateful.

But instead they prove what we already know: that "islam is not the answer" or solution to anything, that it doesn't unite culturally and racially different people in a "great brotherhood," and that islam simply provides a cover to engage in allah-sanctioned barbarity.

The classic defensive reflex we've seen so many times. Islam is perfect, therefore any problems in Islam are attributable to (a) Muslims who've strayed from true Islam, or (b) non-Muslims.

This MCB rep actually expects us to believe the following proposition: Muslims tackling the problem of honour killings would do more to malign Islam than the continued practice of honour killings.

That is truly funny. It looks like projection to me. The west for the most part is not aware of the global political significance of honour killings. On the other hand, the MCB rep seems to have no problem putting these Islamic traditions into a global political context.

The remainder of the report treads the delicate line between asserting the validity of Koranic injunctions that regard all extra-marital sexual relations as sinful while also condemning honour killings that are often avowedly perpetrated by family members to punish women who stand accused of just such sexual relations.
And cows fly. I see no reason to believe that Islam forbids honor killings.

While the MCB's position paper urges Muslim leaders to "take an unequivocal stance against behaviour that is direct violation of Islam", it seems that no MCB leader actually considers such advice worthy of notice.
This is a clever and frequently used hoax. They promise to take action againts behavior that's againts Islam, but of course honor killings etc. are a part of Islam, so they won't do anything about them. Meanwhile, people have been deluded into thinking that Islam is a Religion of Peace, so of course honor killings are againts Islam!

Furthermore, the statement defensively asserts, that "such killings are not restricted to Muslim families but occur also in Sikh and Christian families".
I know nothing about Sihk culture, but I never recall hearing about an honor killing commited by Sikhs. But Christian honor killings? Why, they're all the rage with the fundies these days! You can barely get through the day without hearing about at least one murder commited by a Christian because his daughter/wife wanted to embrace Western values, or something to that effect.

Yeah, this is another moral equivalency argument, except it's completely fabricated. If you can't find a way to make all parties equally guilty, just invent something, like imaginary Christian honor killings.

Not only are they seemingly unaware of the Wests's total ignorance regarding Islam, but they're once again blaming others for their own problems.

In a position paper that follows the statement, the MCB continues its defensive rhetoric by reiterating the fact that the worst forms of punishment for women who bring dishonour to their families "affect only a small percentage of women."
They're most likely telling the truth, since only a small percentage of Muslim women dare to do anything that might get them "honor killed," so therefore only a small percentage of Muslim women are subjected to honor killings. Their way of spinning the issue is so painfully obvious.

Honor killing in national legal codes

According to the report of the Special Rapporteur submitted to the 58th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (2002) concerning cultural practices in the family that reflect violence against women (E/CN.4/2002/83):

The Special Rapporteur indicated that there had been contradictory decisions with regard to the honour defence in Brazil, and that legislative provisions allowing for partial or complete defence in that context could be found in the penal codes of Argentina, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Egypt, Guatemala, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Peru, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela and the Palestinian National Authority. [23]

Some of these, including those of Turkey, have since been abrogated.

Countries where the law can be interpreted to allow men to kill female relatives in a premeditated effort as well as for crimes of passions, in flagrante delicto in the act of committing adultery, include:

* Jordan: Part of article 340 of the Penal Code states that "he who discovers his wife or one of his female relatives committing adultery and kills, wounds, or injures one of them, is exempted from any penalty." [24] This has twice been put forward for cancellation by the government, but was retained by the Lower House of the Parliament. [25]

Countries that allow men to kill female relatives in flagrante delicto (but without premeditation) include:

* Syria: Article 548 states that "He who catches his wife or one of his ascendants [sic], descendants or sister committing adultery (flagrante delicto) or illegitimate sexual acts with another and he killed or injured one or both of them benefits from an exemption of penalty."

Countries that allow husbands to kill only their wives in flagrante delicto (based upon the Napoleonic code) include:

* Morocco: Article 418 of the Penal Code states "Murder, injury and beating are excusable if they are committed by a husband on his wife as well as the accomplice at the moment in which he surprises them in the act of adultery."

* Haiti: Article 269 of the Penal Code states that "in the case of adultery as provided for in Article 284, the murder by a husband of his wife and/or her partner, immediately upon discovering them in flagrante delicto in the conjugal abode, is to be pardoned."

* Turkey: Recently Turkey changed its laws concerning honor killings. Persons found guilty of this crime are sentenced to life in prison. [26]

* In two Latin American countries: Similar laws were struck down over the past two decades: according to human rights lawyer Julie Mertus "in Brazil, until 1991 wife killings were considered to be noncriminal 'honor killings'; in just one year, nearly eight hundred husbands killed their wives. Similarly, in Colombia, until 1980, a husband legally could kill his wife for committing adultery." [27]

Countries where honor killing is not legal but is frequently ignored in practice include:

* Pakistan: Honor killings are known as Karo Kari (Urdu: کاروکاری ). The practice is supposed to be prosecuted under ordinary murder, but in practice police and prosecutors often ignore it. [28] Often a man must simply claim the killing was for his honor and he will go free. Nilofer Bakhtiar, advisor to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, stated that in 2003, as many as 1, 261 women were murdered in honor killings. [29] On December 08, 2004, under international and domestic pressure, Pakistan enacted a law that made honor killings punishable by a prison term of seven years, or by the death penalty in the most extreme cases. Women's rights organizations are, however, wary of the new law as it stops short of outlawing the practice of allowing killers to buy their freedom by paying compensation to the victim's relatives. Women's rights groups claim that in most cases it is the victim's immediate relatives who are the killers, so inherently the new law is just eyewash.

So....the MCB's position paper urges Muslim leaders "to take an unequivocal stance against behaviour that is in direct violation of Islam." Well, let's see. Killing an unbeliever? No, that's okay. You happen to be correct here. The Indian Frontline magazine above - different from David Horowitz's magazine that Robert contributes to - is a Left wing rag. The only reason the above story went as far as it did was that it was written by a Muslimah, and more importantly, it was a negative commentary on Pakistani people. For the PC crowd in India, the only time condemning Muslims is okay is if the Muslims happen to be Pakistanis.

I also found some problematic quotes in the article itself, where one has to factor in that a Muslimah is writing it (emphasis below mine)

From the above posts we can see how heartless, how cruel the practioners of the relgion of peace are. They value their so called pride over lives of their children, be it slaughtering them in cold blood, ( because they fell in love ), or strapping bombs to their bodies to kill innocents.
Why don't they take their own lives to "save face", so that we can be rid of them ?

The tone of this article is off the mark. It basically assumes that Muslims want reform; want to end honor killings; want to end terrorism and misogyny as Muslim practices, but the only reason they don't is because they feel threatened by Western domination and so are reflexively defensive.

That is a rather baseless assumption.

And also, as noted above by others, honor killing aren't rare because of lack of willingness to commit them on the part of Muslim family "authorities". They are rare because of lack of willingness on the part of Muslim women to be murdered.

In short, honor killings are rare because they WORK AS DESIGNED.

But most importantly, the idea that Islam is "misinterpreted" by the vast, vast majority of it's followers not only stretches credulity, but is a red herring.

Those of us who categorically reject all of the Islamic violence and aggression across the globe are not resisting a book. We are resisting violence committed, supported, and tolerated by people - MUSLIM people.

Islam is not defined by a book; it is defined by how Muslims behave.

The human interpretation and implementation of Islam, "right" or "wrong", IS the religion. This should be filed under "Perception is Reality" in our notebooks.

Talking about the Koran is a useful tool academically, and it provides some insights as to "Why?".

But the main issue we face is not how accurately a book or a faith is interpreted by adherents. Save that for some lame university course called "The Real Islam" or "The Religion of Peace", or whatever.

The REALITY we face is that violent, terrorist, treacherous, militant, despicable, oppressive, and backwards behaviors are prevalent among Muslims far, far, far more than any other significant group on the PLANET.

We must recognize them for what they are, based on their behaviors, not what they should be or might have been "if only" they interpreted this or that "correctly".

I think the author of this article must be one of the zakarias. I am familiar with the name of rafiq zakaria. He is one of the taq'qiya master in India. While pretending to be a 'moderate' muslim, he tries to paint over the crimes of his community. Of course, there is never a peep out of him when muslims carry out bombings and shootings of Hindus. One has to be a JWer to understand the taq'qiya coming from these masters of deception.

Arjun, even if she isn't related, she is doing justice to the taqqiya master's legacy: Rafiq Zakaria died last month. Fareed Zakria of Newsweek is his son. As is Arshad, an investment banker in the US.

Zakaria who projected himself as a moderate muslim, was a master of disimulation. He wrote several obfuscating and deceptive books on islam in India, lapped up by MSM as the authentic "insider's view" of islam by "someone-like-us".

Farzana Varsi, a muslim journalist from Bombay, however, does give us a glimpse into this "liberal and moderate" muslim's mind:

The link you provide is that of another taq'qiya master. Observe how she flits from topic to topic, never elaborating, always leaving a question mark for the reader to arrive at his own conclusion. (The reader arrives at the logical conclusion, but, to muslims that is not the answer). I read half-way, before understanding it fully that I will not get anywhere with a taq'qiya artist. Also observe she bashes those who demolished the babri structure. Like rafiq zakaria wrote about some of the evils to prove himself 'moderate', this artist paints zakaria black to prove herself a 'moderate', since most people in India now understand zakaria for what he is, someone masquerading as a 'moderate'. The search for this elusive 'moderate' goes on. :)

Decided to read the whole thing. Yes, she is what I thought. What she does not say in her description of these poverty struck muslims is that the day they have some money, they will find the time to bang heads 5 times a day, the day they get the money, their women will wear tents instead of doing menial jobs, the day they have financial security they will get the beards and the skull caps. I have been going to a slum for the past 9 years now. Some who have 'come up' in the world are the ones who scare me. Freaky beards, caps, complete with a burka beauty. What is scaring me even more is that some of these bums are able to afford bikes and two wheelers now. Earlier the max they had was bicycles. I am scared to see them with cellphones, though now that the cellcos have broken the 20$ barrier, we can see some more zombies with cellphones. Storm clouds brewing.

I have been around animals a lot. The carnivores kill only when hungry or afraid. Generally, even in dense jungles, when we are in their territory, they avoid us. The herbivores are, well, just herbivores. Maybe, to protect her young, a female will attack you. But that is all. They don't eat you up. I feel safe with animals around me. No problem.

Bacteria are 100% living creatures. We need some in our guts to help digest our food. They eat some of the waste, thereby aiding our system. They have formed a symbiotic relationship with us. They don't attack our guts, they help, and we keep them alive in there.

Viruses are something very hard to define. They are on the verge of the living and the non-living. They are 100% parasites. They need a host so they can reproduce. And they kill the host in the process. Once the host dies, all the viruses die too. One can look at afghanistan prior to 2001 as an example of viral infestation. Once, it was occupied by Hindus, and it flourished under them. (Historical evidence that it was very fertile once.) Now what do you make of it ? Once all the culture's wealth was finished, the virus was dying in the desert. One can see similar examples with several other states that turned 'islamic', and are now badlands. In more ways than just agricultural.

I think islam to be more in the order of virus. They need something to parasite on, and only then can they survive. Once the host is finished, they are finished too. But they are too dumb to see that. One more reason for classifying islam as a virus.

But really interesting is the first response there - a proud-to-be-muslim one, that makes the basics clear:

The last paragraph says it all. No 'liberal' or 'moderate' muslims. Only taq'qiya masters like these above, who manage to confuse the masses with such 'intellectual' articles.
