Senate Rejects Arbitrary Budget Caps

Thanks in no small part to the 1,146 emails you sent in the past 48 hours, the Senate just voted down the Sessions-McCaskill amendment, which would have instituted draconian discretionary budget caps for the next three fiscal years. The amendment lost on a 56-40 vote, failing to reach the 60-vote margin it needed by only four votes.

Take pride in your victory, people. Thin margins such as these show just how important your voice is. Thank you for telling your senators to vote no to fiscal irresponsibility.

Thank you for the Sessions-McCaskill Action Alert

Thank you, OMB Watch, for taking the initiative and sending us your email to urge our senators to vote no on the Sessions amendment. You made it very easy for me to do so and add my own personal comments, too. It is wonderfully amazing to me to read that our joint effort may have had a valuable impact on defeating this intolerable amendment. I am so proud of you, and us, and the conscientious senators who listened and voted with their hearts, not just their heads and wallets. A victory for the little people. I love it.

Arbirtrary budget caps LOSE (and that's a good thing)

I don't understand the previous commenter, but perhaps they misunderstood. We got the desired result, and I'm sure our wishes were tallied by senate staffers and the numbers fed back to our senators: "We're running 2 to 1 against in the emails ..." What better information do they have available when they are hard pressed to get to that next meeting in Washington? Stay involved, everybody. Our legislators don't know what we want unless we tell them.

Amen

Exactly right, mandolin maniac.  It takes people like you to tell your elected representatives how you feel about these issues, and they do listen.  And the more letters they get, the louder the message, and the harder it is to ignore it.  So thanks for your help, and keep up the good work!

So only 40 senators voted

So only 40 senators voted against the spending cap? I'd hardly call that a victory. Clearly, our voices are not important to the senate.
