Hundreds of Palestinians clashed with security forces in east Jerusalem and the West Bank as tension boiled over Israel's announcement last week of plans to build 1,600 new Jewish settler homes in mainly Arab east Jerusalem, while a senior Hamas leader called for a new 'intifada,' or uprising.
