When you select the Custom option from the audience selector before you share, you can define more details about your audience.

  • To make content visible to specific people: Choose “Specific People” from the first dropdown you see, and type individual names of friends or friend lists that you would like to see your post. Only the people you list will be able to see your post.
  • To hide content from specific people: Type individual names of friends or friend lists you would like to restrict from seeing your post in the “Hide this from” section. People you list here will not be able to see your post.
  • To hide content from everyone so that only you can see it: Choose “Only Me” from the first dropdown you see.
  • To make content visible to work or school networks that you belong to: Check the networks you’d like to share with in the “Make this visible to” section.

Note: If you chose to use this option to include or exclude specific people from seeing your post, then only "Custom" will show next to your post. People will not be able to see the individuals you specified.

Lists give you an optional way to share a post with a custom audience or exclude some friends from a post based on how well you know them.

You can always choose to share content with or hide content from one or more lists using the audience selector. Or you can share with everyone on one of your lists:
  1. From your home page, find your Lists in the left-column.
  2. Click on the name of the list you want to share with.
  3. Choose one of the options from the top of the page (ex: Update Status).
  4. Click Post to share with only the people on that list. Note that you can change the audience of your post later using the audience selector.
You can also add people to your Restricted list. When you add someone to your Restricted list, they will only be able to see your Public content or posts of yours that you tag them in.

When you want to share something with a group you belong to, just go the group and post there. If the group is closed or private, then only people in the group will see your post. If it’s open, then anyone can see your post (in this case, you might consider sending a message or sharing with a select friend list if you want your post to stay private).

Profile (Timeline) Review is a privacy option that lets you approve or reject posts that you've been tagged in before they go on your profile (timeline). When you turn it on, posts may already be visible in other places on Facebook, but they won't appear on your profile (timeline) until you approve them. When you have a post to review, it will show up in the Pending Posts section of your profile or in your activity log (if you you've upgraded to timeline).

To always review pending posts from anyone, including your friends:
  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page and choose Privacy Settings > How Tags Work > Edit Settings.
  2. Click to edit your Profile (Timeline) Review setting.
  3. Turn on Profile (Timeline) Review.
To only review pending posts from non-friends:
  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page and choose Privacy Settings > How Tags Work > Edit Settings.
  2. Click to edit your Profile (Timeline) Review setting.
  3. Turn off Profile (Timeline) Review. When Profile (Timeline) Review is off, we'll only ask you to approve pending posts from people you're not friends with. Your friends' tags won't need your approval.

Tag Review is a privacy option that lets you approve or reject tags that friends add to your posts. When you turn it on, then anytime a friend wants to add a tag to a photo or post you make, that tag won't appear until you approve it.

To turn on Tag Review:
  1. Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page and choose Privacy Settings.
  2. Under the How Tags Work section, choose Edit Settings.
  3. Click to edit your Tag Review setting.
  4. Turn on Tag Review.
When Tag Review is on, you’ll get a notification every time you have a post to review. You can approve or ignore the tag request by going to the content itself.

When Tag Review is off, you can skip reviewing tags friends add to your content before they appear on Facebook. When someone who you're not friends with adds a tag to one of your posts you'll always be asked to review it.

Remember: when you approve a tag, the person tagged and their friends can see your post.
