Ticker, on the right-hand side of your account, lets you see all your friends’ activity in real-time. When you hover over an item on ticker, you can see the full story and join the conversation as it happens. Ticker updates itself as as stories happen. This gives you a more complete picture of what your friends are doing, right now.

Ticker includes live stories—things like status updates, friendships, photos, videos, links, likes and comments. You can see this activity elsewhere on Facebook. Ticker just lets you see it as it happens.

You can’t close ticker, but you can resize ticker by moving the horizontal bar between ticker and chat up and down.

Depending on the size of your screen, you can move ticker out of the sidebar by clicking the in the lower right of chat. Click on chat to move ticker back to the sidebar.

Hide a story you see in ticker:

1. Click a story you see in ticker
2. Click the menu in the top right
3. Choose "Hide story"

Also, the hide and unsubscribe settings you use to control what you see in your News Feed will impact what shows in ticker. For example, if you hide someone from your News Feed entirely by unsubscribing from them, they won’t show up in ticker. This includes people you’ve already hidden. You might choose to only see "Important Only" or "Most Updates" from someone in your News Feed, but don't want to unsubscribe from them entirely. In this case, ticker will show more from them than your News Feed.

When you are playing an app, ticker will focus on stories associated with the games you play. When you are not playing a game or using an app, ticker will show all types of updates, not just game and apps stories.

No. Ticker only displays information that you’re already able to see elsewhere on Facebook. If you start seeing stories in ticker that you haven't noticed before, it’s probably because ticker makes things easier to discover. It doesn’t mean that privacy around Facebook has changed.

You can control the privacy of everything you post to Facebook through the privacy settings next to your post. Remember that when you comment or like something, the comment or like will have the same privacy settings as the original post.

No. Commenting or liking a post doesn't change its privacy settings. If you can't see a post because of its privacy settings, it won't show up to you anywhere on Facebook, including in your News Feed or in your ticker.

To control stories about your commenting activity in ticker and News Feed, always check who can see the privacy of the posts you're commenting on. Learn more about sharing privacy. If you aren't comfortable with who can see the post, please don't comment on it or like it. If you do, a story about your activity will be eligible to appear on Facebook, including on your timeline (profile), in News Feed and in ticker.

Remember, your comments and likes are only visible to people who can see the original post. For example, you might comment on a photo one of your family members posts just to family. A friend of yours who cannot already view the photo will not see a story in ticker about your comment.

Please note that unsubscribing from a friend's 'comments and likes' in your News Feed, does not have any impact on whether your friends see it when you comment on or like their posts.

Ticker only displays information to others who are already able to see elsewhere on Facebook. Page Like, App Share and App Used Sponsored Stories are eligible to appear in ticker for others to see, but only if they could have already seen them in News Feed.

To control which stories about you show up in the ticker either:

1. Choose who can see stories for each app you use.
   All activity in the app ticker respects the privacy preferences you choose in your App Settings.
   
   When you visit this panel, you’ll see that each app offers an app privacy section. That app can only publish stories to people within the audience you choose from the audience selector. If you choose to hide your app activity from certain people, then those people won’t be able to see your activity in their app ticker. If you choose Only Me under the Customize on the audience selector, no one else will see stories about your interaction with that app.


2. Remove stories after they're posted.
   To remove a story that you published in ticker, click a story that you see in ticker, then click the menu in the top right. From here, you can click:
   
   
   1. Remove this post to remove the story
   2. Hide all by the app to no longer see stories from the app
   3. Report story or spam if you think the story is spam, or
   4. Edit app settings to go to your app settings page

Any friend using an app of a similar type (game or non-game) can see similar stories within this section pending your applications privacy settings.

Your can control who sees activity for each game and app you use from your App Settings. Click on the app you would like to edit settings for, then use the dropdown menu next to App privacy to select who can see posts from that app.

Apps can publish stories to announce that you are using or playing an app (Ex: “Joe is playing Farmville”). With your explicit permission, they can also publish stories about the achievements you earn in a game or your current score. Your can control who sees these stories from your App Settings. Click on the app you would like to edit settings for, then use the dropdown menu next to App privacy to select who can see stories from that app.

We recently launched new features in the right column of apps on Facebook to to make them more engaging and social.

1. An app ticker appears lets you see your friends’ app activity in real time. It refreshes as soon as things happen to keep you up to date.
2. A set of bookmarks to your favorite apps also shows up at the top of the right column. Now you can switch to another app with one click.

When you use games and apps, the ticker on the right-hand column shows your friends’ app activity in real time. Click each update to see a full version of the story.

You can only see stories about friends who are using games and apps on Facebook in this section. And when you use games and apps, other friends who are using apps can see your activity in ticker, too.

Ticker stops updating when you've been idle for 15 minutes. Once we notice you are using the site again, ticker will update again.

When you first enter an app, we show you stories that are most relevant to that app. As you continue to use the app, we broaden the content to include updates from friends using apps that you play and some you haven’t installed.

You can only see stories about friends who are using games and apps on Facebook in this section. And when you use games and apps, other friends who are using apps can see your activity in their ticker, too.

These are the same app bookmarks that show up on your home page. The red notifications on the bookmarks show you the number of outstanding requests you have in that app. If you don’t see a bookmark for an app you use here, you can find it under the aggregate icon on the right end of the row of bookmarks.
