Energy Research -- Five Years and Beyond October 1 - 3, 2008 Stanford University The Global Climate and Energy Project (GCEP) held its fourth annual energy research symposium. As GCEP recently reached its five-year milestone, the theme of the conference was “Energy Research- Five Years and Beyond.” Researchers from Stanford and around the world discussed the project’s progress as well as the opportunities that could lead to energy technologies with significantly reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The symposium opened with a keynote address given by Mary Nichols, Chair of the California Air Resources Board. The first day of the conference included general sessions in which representatives from a number of university-based energy research programs gave their outlook on energy research in the next five years. Technical leaders from GCEP also gave an overview of the research progress made and the opportunities that lie ahead in a broad set of energy areas over the next five years. Technical sessions on the second and third days included presentations by GCEP investigators highlighting the results of their research and poster sessions in which all GCEP investigators and their graduate students provided details of their work. The symposium covered the following topics: Wednesday, October 1 (General Session) Morning: Perspectives on Energy Research in the Next Five Years Thursday, October 2 (Technical/Poster Sessions) Morning: Solar Energy Friday, October 3 (Technical/Poster Sessions) Morning: Carbon Capture and Storage |
