J-1 Academic Training workshops

Academic Training for students enrolled in a degree program at Stanford. As a J-1 student, you are eligible for a variety of work opportunities in the U.S., but employment without proper authorization is a serious violation of status. Remember that before you start ANY kind of employment (even on campus), you must first consult with your J-1 Responsible Officer, whose written approval is necessary in advance.

A number of J-1 visa issues will be covered including:

    • on-campus employment
    • work authorization (Academic Training / off-campus employment)
    • 2 year home country residency requirement
    • visa extension

H-1B workshops

These workshops are not presented by staff at the Bechtel International Center. The presentations are conducted by Bay Area immigration lawyers. They are intended for international students who may be interested in knowing more about employment visas once their stay at Stanford is completed. Bechtel is not liable for the advice and information provided in these workshops.
