Xiaojing Sun is a Co-Manager of Research of the China Solar Project at the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance. Her research examines the technological innovation and market competitiveness of the solar photovoltaics (PV) industry in China, and the investment flow within the Chinese PV industry and between China and the U.S. Her work uses the Chinese solar industry as an example of the fast-developing clean energy sector to inform decision-making in areas such as science and technology policy, industrial and economic development policy, and energy and financing policy.

Xiaojing’s broader research covers a wide range of clean energy and climate issues, including assessing energy efficiency and renewable energy potentials in the U.S. South; designing and evaluating a suite of building energy efficiency policies such as building codes, appliance standards and benchmarking; and modeling the impact of a national carbon tax. Xiaojing is also interested in energy and climate policy at the international level. Her past work looked at the reform of the power sector in China and compared the renewable energy policies in the U.S. and China.

Prior to joining the Steyer-Taylor Center, Xiaojing worked as a Research Specialist at the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University, and as a Graduate Research Assistant at Georgia Institute of Technology. Xiaojing is a PhD candidate in Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology with a minor in International Affairs. She received her Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Duke University. She holds a BS in Environmental Engineering from Nankai University and a BA in Business Management from Tianjin University, both in China.
