The Stanford Research Park is acknowledged to be the first major Research Park in the world; the concept was developed at Stanford University in the late 1940s.

The first tenants in the Park were the two Varian brothers – students at Stanford – who teamed with Physics Professor William Hansen in 1937 to develop the world’s first klystron tube, which became the heart of radar and microwave communication technology.

Today, the Stanford Research Park consists of 700 acres and includes approximately 10 million square feet of research and development, office, and some manufacturing buildings.
