The new website is built on some of the most up-to-date technology and is carefully designed to efficiently help our patrons find and use SUL's vast network of resources.

Summer Exhibit in Green Showcases Fine Bookbinding

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Hand Bookbinders of California, a robust organization with membership open to anyone, anywhere in the world, with a passion for the binder’s craft.

Hospitality for the annual, unjuried members’ exhibit rotates among libraries, bibliophilic organizations, and rare book dealers. Stanford was chosen as the venue this year in part because of our strong collection of fine French bindings.

Casey Mullin New Head of Data Control

I'm very pleased to announce that Casey Mullin will be assuming Margaret Lu's position as Head of Data Control on August 1st, 2012.

Casey brings a wealth of metadata experience that he has gained during his tenure in the Metadata Development Unit as our humanities cataloger and a strong, forward sense of direction as the Department quickly evolves to keep pace with the world around us. His contributions toward SearchWorks development, including Google analytics, give him a unique appreciation for data and its flow from creation through discovery.

Goodbye AACR2, Welcome RDA

The Library of Congress (LC) announced that on March 31, 2013 it will transition all of its cataloging to RDA (Resource Description and Access). RDA is the new cataloging code that libraries are preparing to adopt as a replacement for AACR (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules), a long overdue evolution as AACR has been in use for the past 45 years and is out of touch with current data management needs.
