If you have been sexually assaulted, we are here to support you. Confidential counseling, emergency response and medical support are available to assist you, 24 hours a day. You can choose the resources you're most comfortable contacting. You are not alone -- there are people who can help you.
Emergency Response
If you need emergency assistance from police or medical personnel, call 911 (9-911 from a campus telephone). If you are near any of the 145 blue emergency towers across campus, you also can use these to connect immediately with an emergency dispatcher who can get help to you.
If you need medical attention, you also can go to Stanford Hospital or the Vaden Student Health Center (650-723-4841) on campus. If you are away from campus, seek attention from the nearest emergency room or medical provider.
The Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is the dedicated facility in Santa Clara County for providing collection of medical/legal evidence in cases of sexual assault, and has specially trained staff to do so. Stanford Police are available to transport students to this medical center, and an advocate from the YWCA Rape Crisis Center is available to support them through the process.
Confidential Counseling
Coping with a sexual assault or other form of sexual misconduct can be confusing and difficult. You may want to talk with someone on a confidential, anonymous basis. Stanford has these resources available to you:
Stanford University Confidential Support Team: The Confidential Support Team has licensed clinical counselors who are reachable at 650-736-6933 or 650-725-9955, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide immediate and confidential counseling to Stanford students who have experienced sexual assault or relationship violence. Counselors can help students understand and access the various resources available to them and are experienced in helping students heal from the trauma of sexual assault.
YWCA Stanford Rape Crisis Hotline: This hotline, at 650-493-7273, offers another resource for confidential and anonymous support from professionally trained and certified advocates from the YWCA Sexual Assault Center.
Counseling and Psychological Services: CAPS is Stanford's counseling center devoted to student mental health and well being, and is available for confidential assessment, therapy and referrals for survivors of sexual assault and relationship abuse. An on-call clinician can be reached at 650-723-3785 for urgent situations at any time, including evenings and weekends.
Faculty Staff Help Center: The Faculty Staff Help Center offers confidential counseling and referrals for faculty and staff in the Stanford community and can be reached at 650-723-4577.
Office for Religious Life: The Office for Religious Life can be reached at 650-723-1762.
University Ombuds: The Office of the Ombuds also serves as a confidential, independent resource for hearing concerns and providing referrals. The office can be reached at 650-723-3682. In addition, the School of Medicine Office of the Ombudsperson can be reached at 650-498-5744.
Additional Campus Resources
Title IX Office: The campus Title IX Office works to coordinate education and response efforts across campus regarding sexual harassment, including sexual assault and sexual violence. The office also is responsible for investigating or overseeing investigations of sexual harassment and sexual assault complaints that involve students and for ensuring the overall compliance of the University with Title IX in federal law. SARA Office: The Office of Sexual Assault & Relationship Abuse Education & Response (SARA) oversees campus-wide education and training about sexual and relationship violence, in partnership with other offices on campus. The staff provides educational resources and programming for incoming students, lectures for academic courses, and outreach through student organizations, workshops, and a comprehensive set of information resources on the web. Any individual in the Stanford community with questions about issues regarding sexual assault can contact the SARA Office for assistance.
