Public Meeting for City of San Jose on the Pension Plan Crisis

WHAT: The Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) will be conducting a community meeting at 7pm on Monday, August 22, 2011 to discuss the public employee pension challenges facing both California and the city of San Jose. The meeting will include a background briefing on how pensions work, the current financial state of both CalPERS, the state's largest pension system, a detailed look at San Jose's two pension plans, and the impact of San Jose's pension obligations on other budget expenditures. The meeting includes a panel discussion with San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed and representatives from labor unions, the San Jose Federated pension plan, and pension experts from Stanford and RAND.
