SIEPR Visiting Scholars Program

SIEPR hosts researchers from leading universities and independent research organizations. Visitors are at different stages of their careers, from recent PhDs to established academics recognized as leaders in their fields. Visitors are supported as Postdoctoral Scholars, First Sabbaticals, Visiting Faculty, and Distinguished Scholars.

Postdoctoral Scholars and First Sabbaticals are part of SIEPR’s Young Scholars Program, a highly selective program geared towards researchers in the early stages of their careers. This program provides Young Scholars the freedom to pursue their own research projects with zero or minimal administrative and teaching obligations. Young Scholars are invited to integrate with Stanford’s rich research community, leading to new sets of collaborators and mentors, and receive several opportunities to present and obtain feedback on their research.

The Visiting Faculty program includes visitors from academic and research-oriented organizations. Applications are handled on a case-by-case basis. Senior academics and policymakers have opportunities to visit as Distinguished Scholars and can be nominated by a Stanford faculty member.

All Visiting Scholars have access to state-of-the-art facilities at SIEPR’s John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn building and a vibrant, collegial, economics research community. Visiting Scholars also welcome to attend SIEPR events, including academic seminars and conferences on a wide range of topics in all subfields of economics, a weekly lunch which brings together over 100 economists from around the university, and monthly Associates Meetings and the annual Economic Summit, which bring together academic, policy, and business leaders to speak about timely policy issues.
