SNI Faculty Searches
It’s an exciting time for SNI, as we are in the midst of the Institute’s first two faculty searches. We are focusing this year on the strategic interface between neuroscience, engineering and the physical sciences. One recruitment is in the field of neuro-engineering, broadly defined, and is being led jointly by Miriam Goodman and Kwabena Boahen. The other is in theoretical and computational neuroscience and is being led by Brian Wandell. Partner departments in these searches in include (but are not limited to!) Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, Psychology and Neurobiology. We have several wonderful candidates visiting in the next few months (see link below), and the entire Stanford neuroscience community is encouraged to attend the seminars.
In addition to the SNI searches, several other junior faculty searches are in progress as well in Psychology, Electrical Engineering, Neurobiology, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery and ChEM-H, all of which are considering candidates with neuroscience-related research. This is an exciting time of growth for neuroscience nationwide and Stanford in particular. This class of new faculty recruits will shape the future of neuroscience at Stanford for years to come. The amount of cooperation and communication between the departments and institutes is remarkable, and highlights a great strength of the neurosciences at Stanford—enabling creative, cutting edge research across porous disciplinary boundaries. You can stay abreast of the various seminars on our website. View Faculty Candidate Seminars
The next few months will seem semi-chaotic at times, with a constant stream of visitors, meetings and talks. But we encourage you to be patient, to attend as many of the upcoming seminars as possible, and importantly, to provide feedback to members of the search committees and the SNI executive committee. It is exciting to see our community grow in important new directions as we tackle some of the most challenging and consequential problems in all of science.
