As young as 5, science fascinated me. That's likely why Peter Parker was my favorite teen-turned-superheor, SpiderMan. It all began in college. As an undergarduate, I spent 3 years working on the effects of heat shock on cellular physiology in plants. I took a hiatus for a year during medical school after which I studied the sweet taste receptor on taste buds over a summer fellowship. That experience was rewarding enough for me to make a switch from a 4-year MD program to an 8-year MD/PhD. Over the next 4 years, I generated a protein that has the potential to arrest cell death in Alzheimer's disease. Having spent the last 3 years consolidating a residency, I am once again on the lookout for a clinical research focus. I am likely going to start a project investigating what genetically predispose some children who suffer an RSV infections to be admitted to the PICU while others are well enough to go home. My heart remains full with fascination for science, and I will continue to find ways to fufill my childhood passion.
