The sponsor and the sponsored person work together to establish a new SUNet ID. This page shows sample emails sent during all stages of the SUNet ID sponsorship process. In these examples, Maria Escobar is the sponsor and Maitland Smith has been invited to join Stanford.
The sponsor can designate a contact person to receive the notification emails sent during the sponsorship process. For example, a lab manager may specify the lab administrator as the contact. When a contact is specified, system-generated update emails are sent to the contact.
Each step in the account sponsorship process generates accompanying emails:
- If the person being sponsored doesn't have a person record in the Stanford system, the sponsor creates a new record and sponsors the person for a SUNet ID account. Two emails are sent automatically: one sent to the sponsored person inviting them to create a SUNet ID, another to the sponsor confirming account sponsorship.
- The sponsored person creates a SUNet ID. If needed, weekly reminder emails are sent to the sponsored person and the sponsor until the SUNet ID is created or 30 days have passed.
- When the SUNet ID has been created, the sponsor receives a confirmation email.
- If the sponsored person does not create a SUNet ID within 30 days, the sponsorship expires and their record is deleted. Both the sponsored person and the sponsor receive email notification of the record deletion. Once the record is deleted, the entire process must be repeated.
