Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States after skin cancers. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. About one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in their lives.
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 231,840 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in 2015. After increasing for more than two decades, female breast cancer incidence rates decreased by about two percent per year from 1998 to 2007. This major drop is likely due to the reduced use of hormone replacement therapies and improved prevention, detection and treatment efforts.
