About Us

About Us

A gift from the late Ric Weiland, a Stanford graduate and software pioneer, has generously funded the Weiland Health Initiative to support students of all gender and sexual identities at Stanford. The initiative began as a small-scale project for two years before it was officially launched in fall quarter 2011.

The Weiland Health Initiative is a partnership between Vaden Health Center and the LGBT Community Resources Center at Stanford University.

Serving LGBTQ communities has been a passion of mine for a long time. I am now excited to expand my vision from the binary of queer and straight, into perceiving gender and sexual identities as a spectrum or snowflake wherein we each hold a unique set of identities. My vision for Weiland is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students to explore these identities and how they might intersect with other identities, such as race, ethnicity, faith, socio-economic status, nationality and ability status. We do this through offering mental health and medical services that are affirming across the spectrum identities; training new clinicians on how to provide these services; and also offering campus programming and education that is affirmative of a range of gender and sexual identities.

I am very honored to be a part of the Weiland Health Initiative. I believe that although medicine is slow to change, things are heading in a better direction for people of all gender and sexual identities. I hope to be a part of that change here at Stanford, so that every person will eventually feel comfortable and supported during their interaction with healthcare providers.

Robyn Tepper, MD, Director, Medical Services

Robyn Tepper

As Vaden Health Center’s Medical director, I am committed to maintaining an environment that welcomes Stanford’s diverse community. My involvement with the Weiland Health Initiative allows me to take an active role in refining our services, so we can provide care, support and education to students of all genders and sexual orientations.

I’m extraordinarily excited to be part of the Weiland Initiative team for the year and value the opportunity to support and collaborate with gender and sexual minority students at Stanford. Working with while identifying as a part of incredibly diverse LGBTQI communities in different locations and capacities has been a passion of mine since my own college years, and I continue to find this a meaningful and ever-changing process as both a clinician and community member. Along with many others, I see the intentional honoring of the unique stories we each hold and allyship as integral components of community-building. I look forward to joining in the Weiland team’s efforts to improve resources for gender and sexual minority or questioning students at Stanford and to create rich spaces in which their stories can be shared.
