Fundraising in Africa reached a record $4 billion in 2014, but the demand for capital still far exceeds the supply, a panel of private equity executives told attendees of the Global Private Equity Conference hosted earlier this week by the International Finance Corp. and the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association.

Private equity firms have improved their disclosure of fees and expenses but have more work to do to make sure investors are getting all of the information they need, a Securities and Exchange Commission official said Wednesday.
Marc Wyatt, the acting director of the SEC’s Office of Compliance, Inspections and Examinations, said private equity firms and their investors are “more focused” on fees and expenses, and that has prompted the industry to review and often change practices regulators have highlighted as questionable.
