Stanford submits expression of interest for NYC campus

Stanford this week formally submitted a tentative proposal to the city of New York to build a campus for applied science research and graduate education on Roosevelt Island, with the intent that the campus would serve as a hub for innovation and economic growth.

What could minority students do for an hour in the first year of college that would improve their grades over the next three years? The answer, suggests Greg Walton, assistant professor of psychology, involves an exercise to help make them feel confident they belong in college.

David Rumelhart, pioneer in cognitive neuroscience, dies

Psychologist David Rumelhart, who created computer models in the 1970s and 1980s that simulated human perception, language understanding, memory and a wide range of other cognitive tasks, died March 13 in Michigan following a long illness. He was 68.
