for everyone wanting community-based responses to violence that don't rely on state systems, here's a good place to start: build your pod(s). find others who are also doing the same. support/encourage each other bc pod work is chalenging and takes time.

PLEASE, if in your capacity, start captioning/transcribing your videos and adding image descriptions. Don’t leave disabled people out of these conversations & vital information! If you see/share content that is not accessible in this way, please consider adding it!

I feel like that Mister Rogers “look for the helpers” quote is gonna start floating around the way it always does in times like these, so please keep in mind that advice is for children. His advice to adults was “be the helper.”

It blows my mind that so many journalists are quoting police departments in stories about the makeup of anti-police protests. It’s like quoting tobacco companies in stories about whether smoking is a health risk.

Pay attention to the white kid who puts her body in front of the Black kid, repeatedly. Take notes.

Stormé DeLarverie was a black hesbian who threw the first punch. Marsha P. Johnson was a black trans woman. Sylvia Rivera was a puerto rican trans woman. Marsha and Sylvia founded S.T.A.R. which advocated for trans and gay rights. They made pride. They gave us lgbt rights.

The reason why I don’t like this conversation of “looters” vs “peaceful protestors” is it still draws a divide and carries this narrative that only friendly, respectable and quiet black folk deserve your respect. This is still some model minority bullshit and I’m not here for it

Fellow non-Black folks: Every hour you spend on your own reading resources about allyship, practicing those skills, teaching them to your kids/family/friends, donating etc. is an hour Black folks can be resting, mourning, healing without praising you or educating you. /1

I got a lovely note tonight from frontline organizers and it reminded me to share this thought. Many of you apologize about how little money you have to give when we talk in DMs. Those small donations? They feel like love to the organizers. They feel like solidarity.

Not one Black woman named in that roll call of victims of police killings. That erasure almost took me out the vibe of this . ...

Defund the police. Defund any institutions that hold up white supremacy. Invest in community & community accountability methods. Dream of a new world. We can build it together.

I’m sorry but I cannot overstate how incredibly wrong-headed and dangerous it is to hand people over to the police, even if they’re dumb ass white people doing things you don’t like.

We've focused a lot on the activation of the National Guard, but I hope people are also seeing the all-out militarization of police departments in cities around the country. The government has been equipping local police departments with military equipment for many years.

PEOPLE AT HOME: if you're not going out on the streets to protest, you're not limited to helping via petitions & donations (although those are important/worthwhile) any successful protest NEEDS some people to stay home in order to fulfill the following roles:
