Graduate Overview

Through Stanford's outstanding graduate program, students acquire the background and skills necessary for careers as research economists, university teachers and as practitioners of economics.

The Department offers a Ph.D. in Economics.  In addition, currently enrolled Ph.D. students at Stanford may elect to add a Masters degree, or explore joint degree offerings with other programs at Stanford including the Law School and Public Policy.

 The Department of Economics is committed to working with students to provide financial aid that will cover the cost of attendance, including tuition and expenses from a variety of sources. Financial packages can include support from fellowships, grants, assistantships and hourly employment.

Each year, our graduate students are placed in top teaching, research, private enterprise and civil service positions in the US and around the world.
