Committee Begins Presidential Search

Board of Trustees member Isaac Stein, MBA ’72, JD ’72,  has been named chair of the 19-member committee that will conduct the global search for the next president of the university. The group’s work began in September with the task of identifying the most important attributes of the person who will be Stanford’s 11th president, succeeding John Hennessy, who will step down next summer.

The other members are:

  • Trustees Jim Coulter, MBA ’86, Susan McCaw, ’84, Ruth Porat, ’79, Jeff Raikes, ’80, Srinija Srinivasan, ’93, and Vaughn Williams, JD ’69
  • Mark Kelman, vice dean, School of Law
  • Sanjiv Sam Gambhir, chair, radiology
  • Margot Gerritsen, PhD ’97, senior associate dean, School of Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences
  • Ken Goodson, chair, mechanical engineering
  • Kam Moler, ’88, PhD ’95, professor of applied physics and of physics
  • Ramón Saldivar, professor of humanities and sciences
  • Larissa Tiedens, associate dean for academic affairs, GSB
  • Adam Daniel, senior associate dean for finance and administration, School of Humanities and Sciences
  • Robert Chun, ’16, chair of Stanford in Government
  • Melinda Cromie, PhD ’12, postdoctoral fellow, neurology
  • Kathryn Ko Chou, ’85, MS ’86

The committee expects to recommend a candidate to the trustees by next spring.
