Stanford Art Gallery

**PLEASE NOTE**  The Stanford Art Gallery Building is undergoing renovations in the Fall of 2015. We will reopen in January with improved access and acoustics in the exhibition space, as well as expanded support facilities. The Department of Art & Art History, which occupies and manages the building, will also benefit from new studio spaces including a design prototyping lab and a shared work area for undergraduates in Art Practice.

Stanford Art Gallery, a 1900sq. ft. exhibition space, is an integral part of the programs, research and curricula of the Department of Art & Art History.

About

During the summer and fall quarters, high-quality exhibitions are sponsored by the Department and are presented to engage the university and wider community in stimulating dialogue facilitated by historical and contemporary visual language and culture.  In addition, the Gallery annually presents three MFA shows:

  • a 1st year show to welcome and introduce the newest cohort pursing a degree in Art Practice,
  • a Design thesis show to highlight the students enrolled in the Joint Degree Program with the Mechanical Engineering Department,
  • and the Art Practice Thesis exhibition.

Each year, PhD candidates in Art History collaborate with the 2nd year Art Practice students to produce an exhibition catalog to pair with the Thesis exhibition.

Under the guidance of the Assistant Curator & Programming Manager, the Gallery is staffed by a team of student assistants.  Students interested in working as a gallery assistant can visit the student employment page for more information.
