About

The Bowes Art & Architecture Library collects titles in the fields of art, architecture, and design. Holdings range in coverage from Paleolithic to the present and are particularly strong in the areas of medieval, Renaissance, modern, contemporary, and Chinese art history. The Locked Stacks collection includes unique materials such as twentieth century ephemera, architectural treatises, and artists’ books. The library supports art-related research, teaching, exploration, and discovery; it is open to all Stanford students, faculty, staff, and registered visitors.

Accessibility

The Library is located on the second floor of the McMurtry Art & Art History building, and is accessible via the building's passenger elevator. The collection is housed completely in hand cranked, rolling compact shelving. Assistance may be requested at the Circulation and Reference desk during all hours the Library is open.

The McMurtry Art & Art History building, in which the Bowes Art & Architecture Library is located, sits adjacent to the Cantor Art Center's Rodin garden on Roth Way. The Library is on the second floor.
