Cytopathology Fellowship
The Cytopathology Fellowship is a one-year training program (10 months cytology, 2 months elective) geared towards developing a high level of expertise in the performance and interpretation of fine needle aspiration biopsies, interpretation of gynecologic and non-gynecologic exfoliative cytology, and application of ancillary techniques such as flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics and immunocytochemistry. We accept both individuals interested in an academic career and those intending to pursue careers in community practice. Instructions for application
The Cytopathology Fellowship at Stanford accepts applications from candidates who are board certified or eligible for certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Candidates should also qualify for a California medical license which must be obtained prior to the start of the fellowship.
We require three letters of recommendation in addition to the application form (pdf) and your current Curriculum Vitae. We ask that you have all your application materials submitted to this office by December 31, 18 months preceding the start of the fellowship. Interviews typically start in late February.
Stipends depend upon the postdoctoral level of training and are equal to the general residency stipends at Stanford University Hospital.
Please be aware the California law which states that all U.S. and Canadian graduates must be licensed in California before they begin their 25th month of approved post graduate training, if that training is to be done in a California institution. This means that you are required to obtain a California medical license before starting a fellowship at Stanford. You should allow six months to complete the entire process of getting a medical license in this state.
