Skin Cancer Clinical Services
The Stanford Melanoma Program has a strong multidisciplinary focus involving dermatology, medical and surgical oncology, dermatopathology, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology. Specialists have great expertise in prevention, early detection, and management of localized and metastatic melanoma. Our consultative and therapy-directed practice deals with all stages of melanoma, from diagnosis of the early lesions to therapy for late-stage disease.
Patients with thin cutaneous melanoma (< 2mm depth) and individuals with clinical atypical nevi (moles) are managed in the Pigmented Lesion and Cutaneous Melanoma Clinic (PLCMC). This clinic was developed to follow patients diagnosed with melanoma and those at increased risk of melanoma based on mole pattern and family history.

Salter Packard Children's Hospital Dermatology Clinic
Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital is a 150-bed pediatric hospital where both inpatient and outpatient pediatric dermatology patients are seen. The Pediatric Dermatology Clinic offers comprehensive services for evaluation and management of infant, childhood, and adolescent skin disorders.
The Genetic Skin Disease Center provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for rare and chronic dermatologic conditions, such as, epidermolysis bullosa, vascular anomalies, and other genetic skin diseases. Our experienced pediatric dermatologists work closely with pediatric specialists from other fields to provide patients with the most comprehensive, interdisciplinary care for the evaluation and treatment of these conditions.

- Santa Clara Valley Medical Center: Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a 500-bed hospital for Santa Clara County, with newly-designed facilities completed in 1998. Dermatology conducts a busy outpatient medical and surgical clinic (approximately 8,000 patient visits each year), and provides inpatient consultation services. A large immigrant and indigent population provides the basis for a wide variety of dermatologic disorders including extensive experience in cutaneous infectious diseases. Weekly histopathologic and mycologic conferences complement the clinical experience.
- The VA Palo Alto Health Care System: The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS), located three miles south of the Stanford campus, is a state-of-the-art 300-bed general hospital, completed in 1997. Its residency training programs are fully integrated with the School of Medicine. General dermatology and skin surgery clinics are conducted daily with approximately 9000 patient visits per year at the Palo Alto and Menlo Park Divisions. Consultation service to medical and surgical specialties and to special units such as the geriatric research center, spinal cord injury center, and blind rehabilitation center offers a broad spectrum of clinical experience. Residents also participate in a twice-weekly histopathologic conference and a monthly regional VA Mole and Cutaneous Melanoma Clinic.
