The Renaissances Graduate Research Series
After three successful years of the series "Nodes, Networks and Names: Recovering, Understanding, Representing them” which hosted conference-style meetings, the members of the Renaissances community have decided to embark on a new series and try out a new format next year.
In the Fall of 2015 we will launch the Renaissances Graduate Research Series, with the idea of having the focal group more graduate-student oriented .
Each quarter, one advanced PhD candidate will be given the opportunity to invite a scholar from his or her field and engage that scholar in conversation. During a 2 hour evening event, the professor and the student will briefly present their research in 15-20 minutes each, summarizing a pre-circulated work, before we open the floor to discussion.
The invited scholar will have lunch with all the graduate students interested on the day of the event.
The series is opened to advanced PhD candidates from all humanities departments (DLCL, English, Art History, History, Philosophy...) . We hope that this new format will give graduate students a privileged setting to engage with scholars in their field and contextualize their research.
This Fall, we will start our series with Molly Taylor-Poleskey, PhD Candidate in the History department at Stanford, and Professor Ken Albala, from the History department at the University of the Pacific. The event will take place on Monday, November 2nd, in 260-216, from 6 to 8pm.
