Director's Welcome

Welcome to Stanford's Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER, pronounced "eee" "eye" "per"). This unique program is training scholars and leaders to understand our natural and human environment and to develop novel paths to sustainability. E-IPER provides first-rate graduate training, a supportive intellectual community, and extensive opportunities for career development.

E-IPER students come to Stanford with diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences from all over the world. Here, they pioneer innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to understanding and finding solutions to society's biggest environmental and sustainability challenges. E-IPER students are immersed in a vibrant community of fellow students and dedicated colleagues from each of Stanford's seven schools who share a deep commitment to working collaboratively to solve complex problems.

E-IPER offers a PhD in Environment and Resources, as well as a Joint MS in Environment and Resources for students pursuing professional degrees in Stanford Law School, School of Medicine, and Graduate School of Business. Application information for both degrees is updated annually on our web site: PhD applications are accepted annually late in the Autumn (closing dates are determined each year). Students interested in the Joint MS degree may apply during the Winter quarter of their first year in their professional degree program or at the same time they apply to the GSB or School of Law.

You can learn more about E-IPER through these web pages. We encourage you to check back frequently for current news. If you have questions or comments, please contact our staff for more information.
