Lynn Marie Westphal, M.D., FACOG, graduated summa cum laude from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, earned her M.D. degree at Stanford University, and did her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Stanford University. She did a fellowship in molecular biology at Stanford University, and completed her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Dr. Westphal joined the full-time faculty at Stanford University in 1998 and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Director of the Fertility Preservation Program, Director of the Third Party Reproduction Program, and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Fellowship. Her interest in fertility preservation for cancer survivors led her to set up one of the first oocyte cryopreservation programs in the country. She has held numerous national leadership positions, and is the current President of the Bay Area Society for Reproductive Endocrinologists. Since 2005, she has served as Director of Women’s Health at Stanford. This large interdisciplinary program is aimed at utilizing teams of specialists to achieve superior research, education and clinical care in all aspects of women’s health.

For her fellowship, Dr. Westphal will be looking at gender differences in the medical school and on how to reduce unconscious bias, in collaboration with Dr. Hannah Valantine, a previous Clayman Institute Faculty Research Fellow.
