The Center supports social science research by using computational techniques to analyze big data. Today huge amounts of data are available to use for research on human behavior: website clicks, medical records, social media data. This data can be used to address larger societal issues of inequality, healthcare, education, democracy, and more.

Daniel McFarland, founding Director of the Center on Computational Social Science, and Dan Jurafsky, affiliate of the Center on Computational Social Science, won this year's Roger V Gould Prize from the American Journal of Sociology (AJS) for their paper analyzing social connections. They join several other IRiSS affiliates in receiving this award: Aliya Saperstein (2013), Andrew Penner (2013), Shelley Correll (2009), and Michael Rosenfeld (2006). Read more.
