Researchers calculate global health impacts of Fukushima

In the first detailed analysis of the global health effects of Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster, Stanford researchers estimate that radiation may eventually cause approximately 130 deaths and 180 cases of cancer, mostly in Japan.

Faculty embraces online teaching opportunities

The team leading Stanford's online education initiative has awarded seed grants to faculty members across campus for course development. "It's been a grassroots phenomenon," said John Mitchell, special assistant to the president for educational technology.

 

What does the Supreme Court ruling on health care reform mean for Stanford University employees?

Stanford health care benefits will not change significantly in response to the June 28 Supreme Court ruling on health care reform. However, the legislation did include required changes that are to be effective in 2013, and the university plans to comply with those required changes.

  • Wildfire safety
    : On Saturday, July 21, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the City of Palo Alto will host an education and outreach event about its Foothills Fire Management Plan. Stanford residents are invited to come. The session will cover what the city is doing to mitigate and prepare for wildfire and offer proactive strategies to protect families and property. This event will take place at the Foothills Park Interpretive Center, 3300 Page Mill Road, Palo Alto. RSVP to Simon Williams if you plan to attend.
