Welcome to the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging training program at Stanford University. We thrive to educate the next generation of worldwide leaders in academic and clinical Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. The program includes education in all aspects of basic sciences, diagnostic and therapy as they relate to Nuclear Medicine. Ample research opportunities are provided to take advantage of resources such as the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS) led by Dr. Sanjiv Sam Gambhir and the Research PET/MRI Program at Stanford. Clinical training takes place at Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. At the end of the residency, trainees are expected to successfully sit for the ABNM and ABR certification examinations.
Applicants desiring an academic career in Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging are especially encouraged to apply. The ACGME approved residency program has a total of 3 positions. These are the pathways to complete training:
1. Dual pathway Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology training after the completion of 1 year of training in an ACGME accredited program in a clinical area (internal medicine, surgery, transitional). Trainees will spend 1 year in the Nuclear Medicine program, then the next 4 years in the Diagnostic Radiology program (the final DR year will be spent with a focus on research, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging). Trainees will be fully integrated in both ACGME-accredited programs (NM and DR). This dual pathway is pioneered at Stanford University and meant to offer dedicated research time throughout the 5 years of training. 2. One year of Nuclear Medicine after the completion of 1 year of training in an ACGME accredited program in a clinical area (internal medicine, surgery, transitional) and 4 years in an ACGME accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency program. - Copies of USMLE board exam scores
- A copy of ECFMG certificate (if applicable; we do accept graduates of foreign medical schools)
- Visa status - Stanford only sponsors J1 visas. Applicants who currently hold an H1 visa will need to change to a J1
