B.A., Stanford University;
Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania
Jeffrey Scarborough was an undergraduate at Stanford, where he studied philosophy and French. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. His graduate work focused on the history of modern philosophy and the philosophy of psychology. His dissertation, Perception in Action, pays particular attention to the contributions of the phenomenologist Edmund Husserl to contemporary theories of perception and consciousness. Since finishing his degree, he has been doing research in American political history, political philosophy, and public philosophy. So he is excited about the opportunity OHS provides to expose talented students to philosophical thinking about politics and government.
When he is not doing philosophy, Jeff especially enjoys cooking, baking, (and eating). He recently had the chance to take cooking lessons at the Cordon Bleu in Paris, where he picked up a great recipe for duck terrine. To work off these indulgences, he sometimes plays basketball, though he is an even more avid spectator (Go Stanford Cardinal!).
