What Can You Fund?

The law and university policy drives what can be funded by the university and student organizations.


Overview

All entities of Stanford must follow federal, state and local laws as well as University policies regarding sponsorship and funding of certain activities.  Some cannot be funded and others can only be funded under very specialized conditions.  All activities must take into consideration the university's non-profit status and educational mission. Student organization expenses should be reasonable and appropriate for a voluntary student organization.


Generally Prohibited

  • Partisan Political activities.
  • International Travel programs.
  • Activities not within the scope of the student organization as approved by the university.
  • Events fronted by off-campus organizations.
  • Unapproved off-campus solicitations.

Limitations

  • Alcohol.
  • Programs with minors.
  • Programs with overnight guests.
  • Activities during break and inter-session.
  • Large, capital equipment without ASSU and/or university permission and pre-identified storage.
