Fellowship Training Opportunities

Stanford University ACGME Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training

The Stanford Sleep Medicine Center was the first fellowship program accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association (ASDA). Our sleep fellowship is viewed internationally as the world's leading training program for sleep disorders medicine and thereby draws trainees from across the United States as well as from around the globe.

Our ACGME accredited fellowship is a one year clinical fellowship, sponsored by the hospital. Training covers multiple aspects of sleep medicine including pharmacology of sleep, sleep disordered breathing, insomnia, narcolepsy, pediatric sleep, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, neuro-degenerative disorders, and orthodontics involving both children and adults. To learn more about the program, contact the Program Coordinator [alopez1].

Important Information for International Medical Graduates

All applicants to the Residency Training Program must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of California. Graduates of foreign medical schools should contact the Medical Board of California to ensure the requirements to obtain a license and practice medicine in this state have been met. You must obtain an 'Evaluation Status Letter' from the Medical Board of California, stating that your credentials are adequate to practice in this state and submit this letter with your application so your file may be reviewed.

To process your residency application, we must have the 'Evaluation Status Letter' from the Medical Board of California and a copy of your ECFMG certificate.

Stanford University Behavioral Sleep Medicine Fellowship Training

The BSM fellowship training program is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral Internship Center (APPIC). Our program mission is to enable trainees to sufficiently fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Certification exam.  The program provides 200 to 2,000 hours of supervised Behavioral Sleep Medicine training in a 12-month period, depending on the trainee’s position and funding availability.  In some circumstances the formal training period may be longer than one year, but must be completed within three years.  BSM training is available at the postdoctoral level via a) a full-time clinical track, b) an independent research track with a clinical training component, or c) part-time training opportunities.
