The Position

Community Service Officers (CSOs) patrol designated areas of the University on foot, bicycle or motor vehicle providing security and parking enforcement services.  This is a Non-Sworn, Un-Armed security position.

Provide a safe and secure environment for faculty, staff, and students.  Provide physical security services for Stanford buildings and property.  Report hazardous conditions and suspicious circumstances via two-way radio.  Provide directions to community members and visitors to the campus.

Enforce parking regulations and issue parking citations via electronic ticket writer and/or handwritten form as required.  Process vehicles for towing.  Responsible for the collection and safe transportation of large sums of money (parking receipts).

Direct traffic and set up traffic control patterns for emergencies and special events, including setting up and removing barricades.

Provide courier service and other miscellaneous tasks as assigned.  Assigned as relief personnel in the Administrative Services Division to interface with the public via phone or in person at the front counter.  Prepare miscellaneous Incident Reports as directed.  Basic Computer skills necessary to perform job functions.

Minimum Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent physical condition
  • Vision no more than 20/100 correctable to 20/30 in each eye with normal color vision
  • Normal hearing abilities in each ear
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license with a good driving record
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Basic PC experience

Additional Work Requirements

  • CSOs must remain physically fit and mentally alert for extended periods of time.  Required to stand and walk for long periods of time.  Considerable overtime and shift work.  Officers are required to appear in court during duty and off-duty hours in relation to contested parking citations they issue.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public in routine and difficult situations, i.e., give directions and/or assistance, hold crowds back.  Provide location directions to citizens as required. Aptitude to learn radio codes and terminology in order to communicate clearly via two-way radio. Ability to write clear, concise reports regarding activities.  Pass First Aid and CPR courses and utilize knowledge as needed.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range: $4,035.00 to $5,524.00 per month.
