Meyer Library’s demolition in photos

Meyer Library has been an iconic element of Stanford’s campus since it opened its doors in 1966. This winter, it was destroyed as the result of seismic safety concerns that were deemed to expensive to fix in 2007.

I worked there my Freshman year, checking out books and reshelving them. I loved that library!

I know it wasn’t a beautiful building, but I’m sorry to see it go. For four years, I worked there as part of my Work/Study financial aid. My freshman year, I typed entries into the card catalog and gradually worked my way up to the check-out desks. By my senior year, I was smart enough to choose the least busy desk tucked away in the stacks, where I was able to spend my time “getting paid” to study. Yes, I’m going to miss the Meyer!
