Associate I, Natural Infrastructure for Water

Bio

Yiyuan (Jasmine) is an Associate I for the Natural Infrastructure for Water project. She leads the development of methodology of spatial analysis and modeling through which WRI can advance global understanding of the benefits of natural infrastructure investments and identify opportunities for sustainable solutions to improve water security. Jasmine co-leads the development and production of original, policy-relevant research and analytical outputs to help provide the evidence base and attract necessary finance to scale healthy forest management and other natural infrastructure approaches. She also works to cultivate and grow a global network of practitioners and researchers to implement on-the-ground projects and develop peer-reviewed research.

Jasmine manages, coordinates, and provides technical expertise for Global Forest Watch Water mapping application for users to view watershed data, project water risks and trends, and identify sustainable solutions to improve watershed health. She also contributes leadership and technical support for the development of other WRI data platforms, including leading the data curation, processing, and analysis for Resource Watch.

Prior to joining the World Resources Institute, Jasmine journeyed through four great rivers of the world – the Rhine, the Amazon, the Mekong, and the Ganges – and explored the interactions between different human communities and their rivers as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow. Previously, she was a research assistant at Colby College, mapping, researching, and modeling for the reintroduction of the South China Tiger. She has also interned at World Wildlife Fund in China, Regional Plan Association, and Natural Areas Conservancy, working on a wide range of issues on water management, conservation, and sustainable urbanization.

Jasmine earned a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, where she was a Berkley Conservation Scholar and Tropical Resource Institute Fellow. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Colby College, during which she studied field ecology in Belize and urban development in Detroit, São Paulo, Curitiba, Cape Town, and Hanoi.
