OAR Coordination and Consultation With Tribal Governments

The OAR Handbook for Interacting with Tribal Governments (PDF) (67 pp, 5MB) provides a comprehensive guide for the Office of Air and Radiation’s (OAR) staff on the benefits and requirements for working with tribal governments including an understanding of the federal government’s trust responsibility to ensure that tribal concerns and interests are considered when the EPA’s actions may affect Indian country or other tribal interests. The OAR Handbook is designed to provide specificity and guidance to OAR staff on how to conduct coordination and government-to-government consultation with tribal governments under the general umbrella of the EPA Policy on Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribes (PDF) (10 pp, 213K) released on May 4, 2011.
