This webpage contains the internal submission guidelines for two PhRMA Foundation Pre-doctoral fellowships that limited the number of applicants for each program. A university-wide internal selection process is required.
PhRMA Foundation
Pre-doctoral Fellowship in Pharmacology/Toxicology
Limited program: Only 1 applicant is permitted.
Timeline:
Internal deadline: Wed., July 11, 2018, 5 p.m. (see internal submission guidelines below)
Sponsor deadline: Sept. 1, 2018
$20K stipend per year for up to 2 years
Purpose: Pharmacology/toxicology awards support career-development activities of scientists prepared to engage in research that integrates information on molecular or cellular mechanisms of action with information on the effects of an agent observed in an intact organism, either in experimental animal or clinical studies or both.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be full-time, in-residence pharmacology or toxicology students enrolled in U.S. schools of medicine, pharmacy, public health, dentistry, or veterinary medicine.
Eligible candidates will have completed most of their pre-thesis requirements (at least two years of study) and be engaged in thesis research as Ph.D. candidates by the time the award is activated.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Purpose: The goal of the Informatics program is to promote development and use of novel informatics in an integrative approach toward understanding normal processes of human biology and disease processes. Informatics awards support career development of scientists engaged in research that significantly integrates state-of-the-art information technology developed with advanced biological, chemical, and pharmacological sciences in the following areas: Genetics Proteomics; Molecular Systems Biology; Medical (human) Pathways and Networks; Pharmaco- Integrative Biology; Population Modeling and Simulation; Novel approaches to the analysis of Big Data.
Genomic molecular epidemiology: functional, structuraol, toxico-, pharmaco-, Comparative
Eligibility:
This program supports full-time, in-residence students who will have completed most of their pre-thesis requirements (at least two years of study) and be engaged in thesis research as Ph.D. candidates by the time the award is activated.
For applications to be considered, proposals must contain innovative informatics components and not solely apply bioinformatics methodologies to experimental data analysis. The use of non-human model systems must be described in terms of its relationship to human biology and disease. Emphasis will be placed on the development of new informatics technologies that facilitate translation of data into an elucidation and understanding of human biological and disease processes. This includes the applicant’s identification of unmet clinical needs and a proposed solution.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

2) Recommendation letter printed on department letterhead addressed to Dr. Peter Sarnow and the School of Medicine Awards Committee members, prepared by the candidate’s thesis advisor/mentor. The reference letter should include an appraisal of the applicant and the proposed research, his/her training program. Confirm the candidate’s current status in the Ph.D. program (i.e, must have completed coursework, etc.)
3) 1-2 page summary of the candidate’s thesis research project-prepared by the student (Format: single-spaced, 1/2 inch margin, Arial or Helvetica Size 11 or larger). References and illustrations are not included in the page total. Illustrations can be imbedded in the text as long as the text does not exceed two pages.
4) Candidate’s CV that includes other support
Selection Process
Your proposals will be reviewed by the School of Medicine Awards Committee members. The committee will select the applicant to represent Stanford for each program.
