Bay Area Ophthalmology Course

DATES FOR 2016 ARE JUNE 27 THROUGH JULY 22

Registration for BAOC 2015 now available

Presented by the Bay Area Ophthalmology Consortium and Stanford University School of Medicine

The Bay Area Ophthalmology Course (formerly the Basic Science Course in Ophthalmology) has been offered to the vision community since 1970, presented by faculty from the four area teaching programs and recognized experts from other institutions. The Course offers intensive instruction in the fundamental sciences underlying ophthalmic practice and research, including ophthalmic pathology, optics, epidemiology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, orbit and oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, corneal and refractive surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, and retinal surgery.

Laboratory sessions are offered in pathology, optics, and phacoemulsification.

Approximately seven and a half hours of instruction are offered each day, with corresponding handouts. Several evening receptions are included. The course provides a strong and practical basis for residents in ophthalmology, and a review and update for practicing ophthalmologists and vision scientists.

Foreign participants at every level of training are most welcome to attend.

Medical School Clerkship

The Course has been approved as a medical school rotation and is listed as OPHT302A. Medical students from U.S. and Canadian programs are welcome to apply. Please reference the School of Medicine Clerkship website at http://med.stanford.edu/md/clerkships/ for a listing of eligibility requirements. If you are a Stanford student, please register using AXESS. Stanford medical students who are interested in Ophthalmology as a career are strongly encouraged to attend this course.
