The COPS Office is pleased to announce the awarding of 67 FY 2015 Coordinated Tribal Assistance Program (CTAS) grants to 52 tribes for approximately $26 million. |
The Department of Justice is proud to announce the sixth year of awards under the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS). This year, the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services partnered with the Office of Justice of Programs and the Office of Violence Against Women to award over $97 million to American Indian and Alaska Native communities to enhance law enforcement, bolster justice systems, prevent youth substance abuse, address violence against women, serve crime victims, and support other efforts to combat crime.
In previous years, tribes seeking funding for more than one of these purposes would need to submit multiple grant applications. Beginning in Fiscal Year 2010 and continuing into Fiscal Year 2015, tribes were able to submit a single application while selecting multiple purpose areas, ranging from juvenile justice to violence against women. FY 2015 CTAS reflects improvements and refinements from earlier versions based on your feedback during Tribal consultations and listening sessions, from a specially developed assessment tool about the application experience, and from written comments from applicants and grantees.
In 2015, through the CTAS program, the COPS Office made 67 awards in the amount of $25,756,164 to Tribes or Tribal consortium to support the hiring and equipment needs of Tribal jurisdictions.

Under CTAS, the COPS Office offered funding through Purpose Area #1: Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) Hiring and Equipment/Training. Purpose Area #1 is designed to expand the implementation of community policing and meet the most serious needs of law enforcement in Tribal Nations through a broadened comprehensive program. The funding can be used to hire or re-hire career law enforcement officers and Village Public Safety Officers as well as procure basic equipment and training to assist in the initiation or enhancement of Tribal community policing efforts.

The COPS Office is pleased to announce the availability of a variety of training opportunities specifically for recipients of the COPS Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) and the tribal community. The COPS Office provides training and technical assistance (TTA) to implement and enhance justice system efforts, particularly in the Tribal law enforcement field.
