4.2 Receiving and Processing Gifts

This section, comprising five policies, describes the various types of gifts accepted by the University and proper procedures for processing, acknowledging, and recording gifts, including equipment, land, buildings, and special collections.

Receiving and Processing Gifts covers documentation required by the Office of Development and special instructions for handling various types of gifts, especially during fiscal and calendar year end. Acknowledgement of Gifts instructs how to generate official gift receipts and thank you letters. Record of Donated Equipment describes where and when recording gifts and donations is inappropriate and the disposal process for donated equipment. Departmental Special Collections contains considerations in deciding to acquire or deaccess a collection, as well as guidelines for how these collections should be managed once acquired. Naming Facilities and Land Features covers the percentage of project cost required for naming gifts, and policies regarding use of faculty/staff names, naming streets, and prohibition on memorials.
