Fellowship information
Stanford University, the School of Engineering, the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department and the Sustainable Design and Construction Program all offer attractive fellowships that cover some or all of tuition and living expenses.
- We typically award partial tuition and living cost fellowships to the highest-ranked MS applicants so that they can pursue full-time study and enroll for up to 16 units per quarter to complete the degree in one academic year.
- We typically award full tuition and living-cost fellowships or research assistantships funded by grants to the highest-ranked MS/Engineer, Engineer, MS/PhD, Engineer/PhD and PhD applicants each year.
US nationals are eligible to apply for National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships and National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships that cover tuition and living expenses for up to three years. This gives awardees considerable independence and freedom to select a research topic and advisor. Applications for these prestigious fellowships are due in about November of the prior year.
These fellowships can be combined with Stanford Graduate Fellowships to extend the total coverage for up to five years. Check the National Science Foundation and Department of Defense websites for more information. Students admitted to Stanford can also apply for these fellowships during the autumn quarter of their first year of graduate study.
Other countries offer graduate education and research fellowships to their nationals. Many of our past MS, Engineer and PhD students have been supported by their governments for graduate study. Students are encouraged to explore these avenues of support.
